Barber Shop a cut above with banter

Written by CHRISTOPHER O'LEARY

MAX'S Barber Shop is this year celebrating 45 years service in Goodna and Redbank. Owner Scott Jones, whose father Max Jones established the business in 1965, said the shop would celebrate with the usual offering of quality haircuts.

``We have a laugh, talk about the football, talk about the weekend and try and avoid politics,'' Mr Jones said of the banter he shared with customers. ``We've still got a handful of customers from day one which come in today'' .

The Barber Shop business commenced in Redbank before moving to St Ives Shopping Centre in 1973, then to its present site in 1985. Mr Jones said he joined his father, who retired six years ago, because he enjoyed the barbershop culture.

Mr Jones has preserved the Barber Shop's traditional feel, hanging old photographs marking changes in Goodna's landscape, as well as rugby league memorabilia.

``As a Barber Shop business we've tried to stay traditional, but we can handle all styles,'' he said. ``The hairstyles change over time, but obviously some still make a comeback.''

Jones now owns the barber shop that his father Max established. Max's Barber Shop is located at Shop 12/11 Queen St, Cedar Shopping Centre, Goodna. Phone 3288 4279 .
