Hair Care Advice - Hair Tips
Written by NZhairdressers
Long-term hair removal advice - Inexperienced or unqualified hair removal operators can cause serious skin damage. It's important to choose your treatment carefully. Talk to more than one operator. Ask them:
  • What training and experience have they had?
  • How long will each treatment take and how many treatments will be needed?
  • What are the risks involved?
  • What is the cost per session and the likely overall cost?

The operator should ask you about any medication you may be taking and whether there is anything in your medical history that might suggest a cause of excessive hair growth. If the problem is caused by hormonal imbalance, you'll need to have this treated first.

For electrolysis choose an operator who is a full member of the Association of Beauty Therapists of New Zealand, or who belongs to the New Zealand Electrolysis Association.

With laser and IPL look for an experienced operator who works under medical supervision or who is a full member of the Association of Beauty Therapists. Ask what type of laser they use, and what results you can expect. Be suspicious if they promise good results on grey, blonde or red hair, or permanent hair removal. Don't pay upfront for a long course of treatments.

Skin treatment

We think you should be particularly careful if you choose laser or IPL treatment for skin treatment or conditions. If you are not being treated by a medical practitioner:

  • choose someone who works under medical supervision
  • check on the qualifications and experience of the operator.
