HAIRDRESSERS in pyjamas brightened up the lives of foster children last month as part of a drive to bring some home comforts to kids in need. To launch the drive, Pulse Hairdressing staff donned their jim-jams at work. The hairdressers also promised free haircuts throughout May for customers in PJs, who donated pyjamas to the salon for The Pyjama Foundation. Cairns volunteer co-ordinator for the Pyjama Foundation Louise Orbons said the organisation collects pyjamas for children taken dramatically into foster care, along with championing a literacy mentoring program delivered by pyjama angels. The support from the local hairdressers has been wonderful.
"Often when the children are removed from home, it is sudden, and they leave without an overnight bag, or anything they can call their own," Ms Orbons said. When the community and such wonderful support from local hairdressers and others makes life easier for the unfortunate.
Children are also visited by pyjama angels who read to them and provide a source of comfort and constancy in times of upheaval. There are currently 31,000 children in foster care in Australia, 500 of whom are living in the Far North.

Once again thank you to the Pulse Hairdressers who donned their jim-jams at work.
