Hairdressers against each other in round three of competitionThe heat was on again this week as six hairdressers, 18 models and about 250 guests fronted for round three of Project GenerationNext. Competition director Rudy Marie said the prestigious local hairdressing competition for hairdressers, designed to encourage apprentices to hone their skills, was introduced to provide a creative platform for young stylists.
Mr Marie said the standard of technical skill and creative design shown by hairdressers and apprentices at Monday night's event, held at Velvet Underground, was a step up from the same time last year and he commended each competitor for stepping outside their comfort zone.
Each stylist was required to present a male and female cut and colour plus one avant garde creation.
the hairdressers sliced their way through to the next round were Maria Kadogo, of Pulse Hair; Sara O'Neil, of As You Like It Hair Gallery; Yer Kue, of The Hair Studio - Stockland and Darna Lee Neal, of Jewel Hair Boutique.
Hairdressers Jo van Rensburg, of Reds Salon and Spa, and Ying-Sun Li, of the Hairhouse Warehouse - Smithfield, didn't make it through this challenging round but still managed to wow the audience with their outstanding creations.
Hairdressers from Blondies Kuts and Kurls also entertained the crowd with a creative hair fashion show themed on the seven deadly sins.
Next month brings the final round for the hairdressers in the competition with the four finalists asked to put together a 10-minute hair show using six to eight modelseach.
"They'll be responsible for the music, the makeup, the choreography and the hair," Mr Marie said. "They can use experts to help, but they have to give the direction.
"We also encourage supporters to come along to the final event and vote for their favourite hairdressers and stylist as we'll be awarding a prize to the most popular hairdresser from the competition."
