KYLIE Minogue's tresses are in vogue, "but Nicole Kidman could do with a new 'do," according to hair guru Toni Mascolo. The co-founder of British hairdressing chain Toni & Guy arrived is in Sydney to speak at last weekend's Hair Expo Awards.
Mr Mascolo, 67, gave a thumbs-up to Minogue's current loose and wavy locks, but wanted to have a crack at Kidman's less fashionable mane.
Well, look, I'd like to think I could do a better job than she; I would love the chance to do something special with her hair, he said.
The Italian-born CEO said blunt fringes and undercuts were becoming popular styles in both countries, with celebrities Lily Allen and our own Ruby Rose heading up the trends.
Mr Mascolo said "Australians had a very similar taste in hairstyles to the Brits."
"I think both clients are looking for the same fashions," he said. "What we're also seeing for the future is bobs, as well as fuller hair that is more polished with an Italian look about it.''
Mr Mascolo said he was devastated by the death of his brother and business partner Guy Mascolo last month but had no plans to slow down.
With his brother Guy Mr Mascolo founded the hairdressing company in London in 1963, after learning the trade in their father's barber shop in Naples, Italy. That really takes the biscuitYOU wouldn't often expect to find a model chowing down on a sugary biscuit, but for 21-year-old Eve Smith it's all in the name of research.
The demure blonde, who donned an Iced VoVo-inspired outfit for the weekend's Hair Expo, at Darling Harbour, happily admits she enjoys the odd coconut, pink fondant and raspberry jam treat with a cup of tea. "It helps me get into character,'' she said.
Smith spent nearly four hours in hair and make-up, during which she had pink hair pieces added to her own locks. Caryn Aveling, 27, demonstrated that big, '80s-style hair is back, while Laura Midalia, 26, sported a heavily teased 'granny bun'' style.
