The hairdresser and the bride, trials and tribulationsChoosing a hairdresser two days out from her wedding! How could this happen? Liz Downing was resplendent in pink hair and tears. She'd taken all the right steps: she'd chosen a hairdresser months before on the recommendation of friends and she'd been through the pre-wedding trials.
 My hairdresser left me with pink hair
"I liked the fact my hairdresser was creative. She did a good job with highlights, but two days before the wedding, I went in for a gloss rinse and came out with pink hair," Liz said.
"I got hold of a violet shampoo and washed my hair about 20 times, but it still wasn't natural on the day. I'd had a trial run before -- I really don't know what you do to avoid that happening."
Laughing at the funny side and crying too, Liz, with the help of her sister, had the unenviable task of rushing about looking for another hairdresser at the last minute.
"We were just lucky they had no one booked for that day and the hairdresser we chose was very professional."
Hairstyles change as quickly as fashions do, and while the classic up-do will always be popular for brides, hair is becoming more about individual style.
Book in to your hairdresser or salon for a trial run about a month before the wedding. If you are thinking of making a drastic change to your hair colour or cut, do it months in advance.
If you are wearing a veil or headpiece, take it with you to the hairdresser to trial, along with any pictures of styles you like. Discuss your gown and style of wedding with your hairdresser, and convey to him or her the look you would like to achieve. You should also use the opportunity to talk about hairstyles for your bridesmaids.
Having your hair done is the most time-consuming part of the big day; allow for at least two hours with your chosen hairdresser.
