How to Market Your Salon Business (Part 2)
Hairdresser Zone - Salon Marketing
Written by Bill Slater

We're here to continue with our article on marketing your business.

2. Customer Service - this is confidential;

the key to unlock the door of repeat business, especially in the salon business. And the decisive element that transforms customers into clients. By the way, did you know that customers and clients aren't the same? Would you believe that the words are even spelled different which ought to give you a clue ... ha, but I'm just messing around with you.

Listen up, a customer comes in to see how good you are and a client ... well they've already concluded to make you their stylist.

And how does this decision happen?

Is it your disposition or capability or maybe the color you painted your salon?

For me this is an amazingly easy answer when I'm looking for a hair stylist. Not only do I want one that's incredibly good with all that they do and I always enjoy 'atmosphere', and I want someone that I can converse with and joke with ... but I'm on the lookout for more.

Most of all I want to be catered to like I was the only client my hairdresser had. And I would be brash enough to bet a dollar to a donut that you would think exactly the same way when you buy services from other businesses.

Customer service is the decisive ingredient

that puts this all together and the secret to it all is to render more that your clients expect. Now think about this; 85% to 90% of all salons are like robots and do exactly the same thing to each person that walks in their doors. So would it be difficult to give a little bit more than they do?

Look here, it doesn't take much to thrill someone now days with some extra service.

Let me give you something to chew on for a minute.

I did a survey so I could hear some answers to some suspicions that I had about salons and found out that none of the people that I surveyed ever got a thank you card from their stylist.

Ever!

Isn't that unbelievable to you, or is it just me that thinks that a 50¢ post card would be a wonderful way to convey to me that my hairstylist appreciates me and would really like me to come back.

So by you just mailing a thank you card

to your customers will convey to them that you are completely different than all the run of the mill shops. And I can almost hear you saying ... I can't find the time to send cards to everyone that comes in here, okay, you don't have to.

But the ones that will take a couple of extra minutes at the end of the day and go through their customer list and send a card will reap some wonderful rewards.

  • Like taking a customer to client status.
  • So how do you market your salon business?
  • Start with some very inexpensive thoughtful ways that makes your clients think of you.

You might not believe this, but most hair stylists under-serve their customers. If you'd like to know how to increase the loyalty of your clients especially in these challenging times.
