Can a change of hairstyle make you feel like a new person?IF YOU can't be bothered joining a gym or starting the lemon detox diet this summer, but still want to create a new you, look no further than your hairstyle. A hairstyle makeover can change your image and lift your spirits in an instant, according to Todd Arndt of Vogue Nationale. ``It's definitely a quick fix,'' Arndt says. ``We're booked out solid and it's just everyone getting rid of that mammoth winter hair or that dull winter look.''
Just ask Sam Bilyk, 33, one of three Brisbane women who took the challenge of allowing a hairdresser to give their hairstyle makeover in time for summer. And the transformation in all three women is amazing. ``I've had the same style for a couple of years so I was looking for a change,'' Bilyk says.
As a mother of two, Bilyk doesn't have a lot of time to spend to consider a hairstyle change or even doing her hair, so she wanted a hairstyle that was manageable. ``I'd probably spend a bit more time straightening the fringe, but that's only on the days I washed it,'' she says.
``Now it's quite a bit lighter and I've had lots of comments from people.
``You really feel like a new person when you get your hair done.''
A summer hairstyle makeover was just what Evie Willsteed, 20, desperately needed. The University of Queensland student has been bleaching her hair for the past year and cutting it herself to save money, so she admits it was in poor condition.
``It was looking pretty ratty so they made it shorter at the back and gave it more shape round the face,'' she says. Arndt says he coloured Willsteed's platinum blonde hair a more golden blonde because that's one of this summer's big colours.
``It's a lot more chic than it was before because I had it really messy, so it's a nice change,'' Willsteed says.
Updating your hairstyle for summer doesn't necessarily mean having to undergo a drastic change, as journalism student Emily Walker, 20, of the Gold Coast, proves.
Walker wanted to keep her hair long. ``It was just dull -- I wanted something to brighten up the colour and I suppose be in theme for summer,'' she says. ``My hairstyle reflects more of my personality, I think.''
