A new TV show, which will highlight a salon’s journey to turn its business around, was the subject of a meeting today between Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Timms and business guru, Hilary Devey.

Set to air next Wednesday on Channel Five, The Business Inspector is a four-part series which aims to highlight the benefits of keeping good records when creating a successful business.

Speaking to Salon Business, Hilary said: “The show looks at a whole host of businesses  - eight in total.”

“At first I go into each of the businesses incognito, then the next time I go, I reveal who I am. There were a few where it was an easy fix. But in general I am there to look at how they run their business and then take the business apart and find the USP”

A beauty salon and spa in Dewsbury is one of the firms featured in the series.

Hilary said: “The company had excellent books but the business was still not performing. They needed branding and marketing. I came along and created a one-stop-shop."

"I looked at customer retention, marketing, branding and man-management. I showed them how to handle their accounts. I also showed them things like cash flow projections – it was really all about discussing with them where the problems were.“

Speaking about the show, Stephen Timms, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, said: “We want to ensure that growing businesses are not held back by the need to play catch up with their affairs down the line. The Business Inspector will bring this to life and highlight the importance of having good systems in place from day one. I’m looking forward to watching the first episode next week.”
