Throw away the rule book when it comes to hair this summer -- anything goes. This is the message from Bridget Carrodus and her staff at XPER-TEZE Hairdressers, located in the Axa Arcade, running between High and Hereford streets.
Bridget, who owns and manages the friendly salon, says it is important for women to adapt trends to suit their own hair type, face shape, and lifestyle.
"We pride ourselves on being honest with our clients. If we think the style or colour they want isn't quite right for them, we'll say so. Our job is to give clients the best possible result in a highly professional manner. But we like to have a bit of fun, too," says Bridget.
All staff undergo regular training to keep up with international trends in styling and product.
This summer, messy, textured styles are to the fore. Stronger exterior lines are relieved by a softer interior. Natural curl is being encouraged and there's even the return of the body wave -- not Nana's perm, but soft and loose.
Colour is in a range of natural tones, mirroring this season's fashion shades of beige and brown. Chunky multi- colours abound in short hair but long hair is not left in the shadows. Blondes can have their cake and eat it, too, with dark under-tones.
Dreadlocks remain popular, both temporary and permanent, but bring a good book with you -- it could take up to five or six hours depending on hair length. Corn rows ("scalp braiding" for the uninitiated), is big among the 15 to 30 year olds. Allow two to three hours.
And if you're wanting to experiment with putting your hair up, stylist Vanessa-Amy Pasley will wow you with her creativity. With a swag of awards to her credit, Vanessa-Amy specialises in dressing hair for weddings, balls, and cocktail parties.
Call in and have a chat with her about the look you want. Remember, you need to consider the style of your dress when thinking about putting up your hair. Vanessa-Amy will help you decide what will best complement your outfit.
